You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Fake it till you make it.” But what if I told you, it’s not just about pretending - you can actually use your body to lead you to success.

Imagine starting your day strong, focused, and ready to become the person you want to be - all by changing how you stand, speak, and move. Stick with me, and I’ll show you exactly how to do this with powerful, practical steps that you can start using today, starting with a challenge I’ll give you at the end.

Today we’re diving into a fascinating approach to leadership - using your body to guide your actions and success.

Now, this might sound a bit strange, but research, especially from psychologists like Amy Cuddy, shows that how we hold ourselves physically can deeply influence how we think and feel. In Amy Cuddy’s famous TED Talk, she explained the power of body language in shaping our minds. Her idea of “Fake it till you make it” is based on the principle that adopting a strong, confident posture can trick our brains into feeling more powerful - long before we actually believe it internally.

Today, I’m going to share a morning habit I swear by, some simple mantras to keep you grounded, and my Four Focuses of Success - designed to help you become the leader you want to be, not just in your mind, but in your body as well.

Morning Mantra

Let’s start with how you can use your body first thing in the morning to set the tone for your day.

When you wake up, before you dive into emails or to-do lists, take three minutes stand tall.

I mean really tall - feet planted firmly on the ground, shoulders back, head high, raise your arms if you wish, or put your fists on your hips in what I call the Wonder Woman Stance. And as you stand there, say three mantras to yourself.

These are mine:

  •  “I am Fit and Healthy”
  •  “I am Calm and Focused”
  •  “I am Expert and Experienced”

It might feel silly at first, but trust me - this combination of a powerful posture and affirming words sets your brain into a state of readiness. You’re telling yourself that this is who you are, and your body begins to follow suit.

Your mind aligns with these ideas, and your actions follow throughout the day.

Now, let’s go deeper into how you can carry this practice into every moment of your day with my “Four Focuses of Success.” These will keep you grounded and strong no matter what situation you’re facing.

The first focus is the Result

Start by asking yourself, "What do I want at the end of this situation?"

Whether you're heading into a meeting, having a challenging conversation, or just tackling a tough task - clarity is key. Visualize the result you want. But don’t stop there—feel how beneficial and pleasurable that outcome will be.

Imagine the feeling of relief, joy, or accomplishment when it's done. This helps you move toward your goal with a clear direction. When you have that end-result in mind, your actions become intentional, and your body supports you in getting there.

The Second focus is on the Language that you use

The words you use, even just in your head, have an immense impact.

If you say to yourself, "I can’t do this" or "I’m terrified," your body tenses, and you shrink mentally. Instead, use language that empowers you. Say things like, "I am ready for this," or "I’m becoming the person I need to be."

Also, minimize negative language.

For example, instead of saying you’re “terrified,” tell yourself you’re “a teeny, weeny bit unsure.”

By softening your language around fear or anxiety, by making fun of the negative, you give your mind permission to step into a place of confidence.

The third focus is your Posture

This is a big one.

Your body can directly impact how you feel in any situation. Whenever you start feeling unsure, check your posture.

Are your shoulders slumped?

Are you avoiding eye contact?

Reposition yourself. Stand tall, shoulders back, chin up, and take deep breaths.

A confident posture sends signals to your brain that you are in control, even if you don’t feel that way at first. And that quiet, confident smile? It’s not just for show. It reinforces the calm and strength you’re cultivating.

Focus number 4 is about who you need to be

Focus on the kind of person you need to be to achieve that result you visualized earlier.

Who is that person? What qualities do they embody? Are they decisive? Confident? Resilient? Are they empathetic, logical, caring? Now, see yourself being that person.

By focusing on the traits you want to embody, you create a mental roadmap for your actions. You’re not just thinking about what needs to get done; you’re actively becoming the person who gets it done.

Your Challenge

Your body is an incredible tool. You can use it to shape your mindset, focus your actions, and become the leader you want to be.

Start your mornings with powerful postures and mantras - like “I am Fit and Healthy,” “I am Calm and Focused,” and “I am Expert and Experienced,” or whatever mantras work for you.

Throughout the day, remember the Four Focuses of Success:

  •  Clarify your desired Result.
  •  Use empowering Language.
  •  Adopt a strong Posture.
  •  Focus on being the person you need to be.

Finally, here’s a challenge for you.

Tomorrow morning, start your day standing tall and repeat your three mantras. Let me know how it feels in the comments. I’ll be checking in to see your progress!
